GCode Tiler

Ever wanted to create an array of several 3D toolpath files, one for each bit?  GCode Tiler does it quickly and easily in just a few steps:

  1. Browse for your files.  You can select one or many.
  2. Set your number of copies, spacing, and other options.
  3. Click Tile!  Tiled files will be written beside the originals.

We wrote the GCode Tiler to easily tile toolpaths created for GRBL processors.  Like most home machines, we don't have automatic tool changers and senders don't deal well with tool changes, so we end up with several toolpath files for a single design.  We wanted to be able to create 2, or 3, or 42 copies of our toolpaths in an array that we specify, with fixed distances between instances that we could specify, so that our toolpaths line up.  When we couldn't find a simple tool that did everything we wanted, we wrote our own!

GCode Tiler includes the following features:

  • Allows tiling in X and Y directions.  (You can choose X then Y, or Y then X.)
  • You can tile as many toolpath files as you want, all at the same time with the same settings.
  • Uses user-specified distances between instances.  (To ensure that the toolpaths maintain the proper registration.)
  • Works with both metric and imperial spacing.
  • Includes skipping items at the beginning or end of the array.  (Great for continuing after a tool breakage or a toolpath update.)
  • User-specified decimal places and trailing zeros in output files.
  • Option to keep spindle on between instances.  (To avoid ramp-up dwell times.)
  • Option to avoid moving to G28 X&Y between instances.  (Raising to G28 Z is maintained.)
  • Completely free to use!

This tiler is useful to us, and we hope it will be useful to you, as well.  We make no guarantees that it will will be suitable for your needs, and we assume no responsibility for anything bad resulting from its use.  We recommend verifying proper tiled output by using your sender, NCViewer.com, etc. before cutting.
